According to a national survey, 87% of recruiters use LinkedIn to vet candidates during the hiring process.  Here are some best practices for your LinkedIn profile:

  • Be sure your profile is complete (education, experiences, and accomplishments) and up-to-date  

  • Be sure your profile and resume match -- dates of employment, job titles, etc. -- discrepancies say you're not detail oriented 

  • Don't use selfies -- your profile photo like your resume should be professional

  • Make contacts, especially with important figures in your field, and be active on news feeds -- both show you're keep abreast of developments in your profession

  • Your headline matters -- Google search results include your location and professional headline

  • Avoid long, dense blocks of text -- summarize, use short blocks, and bullet points that can be read easily

  • No slang, no jargon, and don't be vague
